Sigma-Aldrich CEO made nearly $3.3 million in ‘08

The leader of St. Louis-based fine chemicals maker Sigma-Aldrich Corp. received nearly $3.3 million in compensation during fiscal 2008, according to Post-Dispatch calculations.

President and Chief Executive Jai Nagarkatti earned $750,000 in base pay, a 14 percent increase from fiscal 2007, according to a regulatory filing. He received a $356,625 cash bonus last month for the 2008 year — a 19 percent decrease from fiscal 2007 — and an added $79,672 in pension value and deferred earnings.

Nagarkatti also received $196,171 in other compensation from contributions to a 401(k) retirement savings plan, supplemental retirement and personal use of a company vehicle online payday advance. In addition, the value realized on exercised options totaled about $1.6 million and the value of vested stock totaled $277,472.

The Post-Dispatch’s calculation excludes unexercised stock and option awards to give a better sense of what an executive actually received, as opposed to potential earnings.
