Sam Choy closes Diamond Head restaurant

Hawaii chef Sam Choy will shutter one of his two Oahu restaurants and rename the other.

Sam Choy's Diamond Head on Kapahulu Avenue is scheduled to close Sunday. Twenty-five employees will be offered jobs at the Breakfast, Lunch & Crab restaurant and Big Aloha Brewery on Nimitz Highway.

The combined staff will mean a total of 150 employees at the 550-seat Nimitz restaurant, which will be renamed "Sam Choy's."

"Expenses are going up and we thought it would be best to consolidate the locations," Choy said in a prepared statement. "We are planning to introduce a new dinner menu at the Nimitz location, which will also include some of our most popular Hawaiian regional cuisine-style dishes. The restaurant plans to undergo a renovation in the fall."

All WOW and gift cards from the Diamond Head location will be honored at the Nimitz Highway restaurant easy payday loan.

Choy is contemplating moving forward with a different concept at the Diamond Head location, which he opened in 1995. There also is a Sam Choy's restaurant in Tumon, Guam.
